AMW Solar to establish the first and largest photovoltaic power plant in Bangladesh, with a 20 MW electricity generation capacity

AMW ELECTRONICS LTD (Vaud, Switzerland) Switzerland and its Parent Company AMW Electronics Ltd. (Bangladesh) announced establishing a 20 MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant with an amendment for operation by the end of the year 2011. "The projected location of this 20 MW Power plant would be Sadar, Noakhali, Bangladesh, with 100% ownership of AMW Solar (a business Unit of AMW Electronics Ltd.) and a full financial privileges from Sonali Bank, Bangladesh by a 15-25 years electricity power purchasing agreement with Power development Board of Bangladesh. As a consequence of this Project the project coordinator AMW Electronics Ltd Switzerland currently approaches for its EPC support with some of the PV PP EPC key players of Europe and United States for dealing such large scale PV power plant.

In the power plant inauguration announcement, the company’s CEO, Mr. Hasanuzzaman, stated: "Though the solar energy progression more recently voiced in Bangladesh, but the course of the solar energy market trends is quite favorable for such a large scale photovoltaic power plant. We believe with a reputable Photovoltaic EPC’s assistance we can go for operation within our approached time frame." This Plant will not only be the largest, Photovoltaic PP in Bangladesh rather within Indian Subcontinent. This project could contribute 4% of renewable energy demand for Bangladesh Government’s 500 MW renewable energy power plant goals by the year 2012.
